For the many viewers of The Today Show, change is upon us. Every morning we tune into Matt Lauer, Ann Curry, and the rest of the NBC gang to give us great morning news. Yet after a 10 million dollar sign off and a possible slot for a foreign correspondent position, Curry will be departing the NBC morning show. The question still remains, who are the potential successors to Curry and will take her place?
We looked at Twitter to figure out who the viewers thought would replace Ann Curry.
Savannah Guthrie: 34%
The most commonly mentioned replacement for Ann Curry is Savannah Guthrie who is the current host of the 9:00 a.m. hour of "Today". Twitter users commonly mentioned that they would be upset if Guthrie replaced Curry and there has been buzz around common concern that Matt Lauer and Guthrie do not get along.
Hoda Kotb: 33%
Kathy Lee Gifford’s witty sidekick, Hoda Kotb, came in a close second. People generally stated that they like Hoda, but question her ability to be a serious news anchor. The New York Times reported Kotb being ready to fill Curry’s shoes if she didn’t happen to show up for work on Thursday. People also questioned what would happen with the Kathy Lee and Hoda’s segment. People mentioned that Regis Philbin was supposable being lured by NBC to reunite with his pal Kathie Lee Gifford.
Natalie Morales: 23%
Though Natalie Morales had fewer mentions, almost all conversation surrounding Morales was positive. Morales has been part of the NBC program since 2006 and replaced Curry as the news anchor for "Today," when Curry went on to be the host back in June 2011. Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney expressed his interest in Natalie Morales who seems to be the Twitter’s leading lady but an underdog in major news sources.
Or will the Today Show pull a fast one on all of us and bring us a fresh face? Reinvention for the show might not be such a bad idea and bringing someone new could mean better ratings and new viewers.
Although no one really knows who will take her spot, a few of people expressed how irreplaceable Ann Curry is and she would be a very hard act to follow. Whoever
NBC execs decides to sign on, we will still be sad to see Ann Curry signing off.
