If we learned one thing in January 2015, it's that Twitter users really love The Lego Movie. When the film lost out to How to Train Your Dragon 2 at the Golden Globe Awards on January 11, fans showed their outrage on Twitter.
In fact, Canvs identified Lego's loss as the biggest spike in hate Tweets over the entire course of the Golden Globe award show. In the five minute period from 9:15 - 9:20, fans expressed hatred nearly 2,300 times, using phrases like "not awesome," "total bull," and "awful" to decry Lego's snub.
A mere four days later, The Lego Movie suffered another insult when it didn't receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Film on January 15. Fans were equally outraged, but Lego Movie co-producer Philip Lord added some levity by Tweeting a picture of a Lego replica of the Oscar statuette.
To date, Lord's Tweet has been Retweeted more than 34,000 times.
We analyzed Twitter reactions to Lego as well as the rest of January's top entertainment stories, including Empire’s midseason premiere, American Sniper's box office record, and Justin Bieber's grown-up Calvin Klein ads.
